Mohammed bin Mohammed al-Mansur

Mohammed bin Mohammed al-Mansur ( Arabic محمد بن محمد المنصور, DMG Muḥammad b. Muḥammad al-Manṣūr ; * June 21, 1915 in Shaharah District , Amran Governorate , Yemen ; † September 9, 2016 in Sanaa ) was Imam of the Zaidites (or five Shiites), one of the three main branches of the Shiites .

Life

He has around 10 million followers, most of them in Yemen , a small percentage in Saudi Arabia .

He was named 30th among the 500 most influential Muslims in the world by the Jordanian Royal Aal al-Bayt Institute for Islamic Thought .

He was one of the signatories of the Amman Message ( Amman Message ). He was one of the 24 personalities who wrote a fatwa (legal opinion).

In 2006 al-Mansur was among the signatories of an open letter from Islamic scholars to Pope Benedict XVI. after his Regensburg speech .

He was one of the 138 signatories of the open letter a common word between us and you ( Engl. A Common Word Between Us and You ), the personalities of Islam to "leaders of Christian churches everywhere" (Engl. "Leaders of Christian Churches, everywhere ... ") (October 13, 2007).
