Mohan Joshi Hazir Ho! ( Hindi मोहन जोशी हाज़िर हो , translated: The Trial of Mohan Joshi ) is a 1984 Hindi film by Saeed Akhtar Mirza , a comedic satire about the legal system. Here the years of negotiations that lead to nothing are ridiculed. The plaintiffs either lose their belongings or die at some point.

action

An old couple, Mohan Joshi and his wife, are suing tenant Kundan Kapadia for their run-down apartment. They hire two lawyers to help. The process has dragged on over the years. While the lawyers attain their wealth, the couple become impoverished.

Back home, they are mocked for having fought Kapadia and ultimately fought for nothing.

In the end, the judges want to take a closer look at the condition of the apartment. So that Kapadia is right, he has his men fix the apartment and paint over the run-down walls. As a matter of principle, Mohan cannot let this sit on him and tears down everything that the men had built. The walls collapse over his head.

criticism

Mirza's allegorical approach with a superficial realism allows him to cast the famous villain actor Amjad Khan as a real estate entrepreneur and make him drip sweat from his chin or have him eat a mutton leg.

Awards

National Film Award (1985)

Others

The title role of Mohan Joshi is played by Bhisham Sahni , a well-known writer and brother of the actor Balraj Sahni , in his first film appearance.
