Moissei Ivanovich Karpenko ( Russian Моисей Иванович Карпенко * August 28 . Jul / 8. September  1775 greg. In Burinowo, Gouvernement Kaluga ; † August 4 jul. / 16th August  1854 greg. ) Was a lieutenant general of the Russian army .

Life

Karpenko came from a Russian noble family.

In 1790 he joined the Russian Army in a grenadier regiment in Moscow . He took part in the Russo-Polish War in 1792 and in the Kościuszko Uprising in 1794 . On October 3, 1794, he was promoted to ensign . He also took part in the Fourth Coalition War and the Russo-Swedish War . On February 27, 1809 he was awarded the Order of St. George IV Class.

On September 11, 1809 he was promoted to colonel , on April 24, 1810, he was given command of the 26th  Jäger Regiment and on October 31, 1810, he became chief of the 1st Jäger Regiment. During Napoleon's Russian campaign in 1812 he was in command of the 3rd  Brigade of the 11th Division of the 4th  Army Corps and took part in the Battle of Smolensk . He was wounded in the Battle of Borodino , but was still able to take part in the Battle of Tarutino and the Battle of Smoljany . For his services he was promoted to major general on December 3, 1812 .

In the spring campaign of the Wars of Liberation in 1813 he was wounded again in the Battle of Bautzen and was awarded the Prussian Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class, as well as the Order of St. George III on November 10, 1813. Class excellent.

In the Battle of the Nations near Leipzig he was commander of the 1st Brigade of the 11th Infantry Division in the 8th Corps of Guillaume Emmanuel Guignard de Saint-Priest

In 1816 he led the 3rd Brigade of the 1st Grenadier Division and from January 18, 1816 he was commander of the 3rd Brigade of the 5th Division.

On December 17, 1816, he was discharged from the army, but on September 11, 1839, despite his age of 64, he was put back into service and promoted to lieutenant general. On December 18, 1840, he was given command of the 2nd Infantry Division. In 1844 he became the commandant of the Samostye fortress and in April 1849 general auditor of the army. In 1851 he was discharged from the army for health reasons and spent the last three years in Burinowo, where he died and was buried in 1854.
