The Molchowsee is an inland body of water in the Ostprignitz-Ruppin district in the north-west of Brandenburg . The Molchowsee is 1.6 km long (with a maximum width of 500 m), its surface is 52 ha (0.52 km²). The lake is traversed by the Rhin from north to south, followed by the Tetzensee in the north, and the Ruppiner See with Neuruppin in the south via the Alt Ruppin lock . The Molchowsee is part of the Ruppin waterway .

Emergence

The Molchowsee lies in a glacial channel that was formed in the last ice age, the Weichsel ice age, about 18,000 years ago. After the glacier melted, initially dead ice remained in the channel. It was not until the warming at the end of the Ice Age about 12,000 years ago, when the block of dead ice melted, that the lake formed.
