Emergence
The Molchowsee lies in a glacial channel that was formed in the last ice age, the Weichsel ice age, about 18,000 years ago. After the glacier melted, initially dead ice remained in the channel. It was not until the warming at the end of the Ice Age about 12,000 years ago, when the block of dead ice melted, that the lake formed.
