Mole Creek is a small town in the north of the Australian state of Tasmania . It is located on the middle reaches of the Mersey River in the northern foreland of the Great Western Tiers . In the 2016 census, 188 inhabitants were counted.

traffic

On April 5, 1890, the railway line to Mole Creek was opened. Mainly wood was transported on it for the paper mill in Burnie , later also wood chips for Bell Bay . Passenger transport has played the main role since the 1920s. In 1985 the train runs were stopped and in 1992 the line was finally closed.

The city ​​can be reached from the east on the Mole Creek Main Road (B12) towards Deloraine.

education

The local elementary school district also includes other settlements in the district, such as Chudleigh and Caveside . The closest secondary school is in the Deloraine Middle Center .

economy

Mole Creek is known for its honey and supplies approx. 35% of all Tasmanian honey, including that of the flowers of the Tasmanian false elm ( Leatherwood , a well-known single-variety honey), which is unique in Tasmania and sold worldwide.
