Molested was a death metal band from Bergen , Norway .

history

The band was founded in 1991 by Øystein G. Brun, Kenneth Lian, Trond Turnes and Erlend Erichsen . After the release of two demos that were recorded in the Grieghallen studio, the band received a recording contract with the newly founded Norwegian label Effigy Records, on which their debut album Blod Draum was released in 1995 .

In 1995 Brun founded the band Borknagar . In the same year Molested received a recording contract with the Spanish label Repulse Records , which included two albums. However, the two albums were not realized. In 1997 the Stormvold mini album was released, which contained material from 1995. In 1997, Molested broke up as the band Borknagar was taking too much time. Erlend Erichsen played from 1999 as a drummer for the Norwegian black metal band Gorgoroth . During the band's existence there were no line-up changes .

music

Molested played complex, black-metal-influenced death metal, and they also used non-typical metal instruments such as a jaw harp . There are also Norwegian folk influences in the music , which the band combined with blast beats and lower-pitched guitars. Sascha Falquet described the music in Voices from the Darkside as "quite technical and very, very complex" and at the same time "natural".

When asked about the lyrics and the concept of the band, Brun replied that it was up to the readers and listeners what the lyrics mean to them. When writing the lyrics he was inspired by the violence of nature, which modern people fear, and that is what Molested is about. While many death metal bands in Scandinavia had to reckon with hostility from the local black metal scene, the band there, according to Brun, who saw himself as part of the black metal scene, was known as the “only TRUE death metal” Band in Norway ”respected. When asked about the increasing right-wing extremist tendencies in the scene, he replied: “Everybody progresses in their lives and way of thinking! That deserves respect! ” , He rejected organized religion as something for the weak.
