The moon-spotted sunflower ( Helianthemum lunulatum ) is a species of sunflower ( Helianthemum ) in the rockrose family (Cistaceae).
features
The moon-spotted sun rose is an evergreen dwarf shrub that reaches heights of 5 to 20 centimeters. The leaves are elliptical-lanceolate and 8 to 12 millimeters long and 3 to 4 millimeters wide. The flowers are arranged individually or in groups of 2 to 3 (rarely 4) on a mostly short inflorescence axis. They are long-stalked. The petals are yellow and have a crescent-shaped, orange-colored spot on the base.
Flowering time is from June to July.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 22.
Occurrence
The moon-spotted sun rose occurs in the Maritime Alps on rocks and stony meadows at altitudes of 850 to 2200 meters.

The moon-spotted sun rose is rarely used as an ornamental plant for rock gardens and dry stone walls.
