Monika Fikus

Monika Angelika Fikus (* 1957 in Berlin ) is a German sports scientist and university lecturer .

Life

Fikus studied sports science and political science until 1983 and psychology and physics from 1984 to 1988. She obtained her doctorate in natural sciences in 1988 at the Technical University of Braunschweig with a thesis on "Visual perception and movement coordination: an empirical work from volleyball". After her time as a research assistant at the Institute for Sports Science and Movement Education at the TU Braunschweig, Fikus worked from December 1985 to March 1995 at the Faculty for Sports and Health Sciences at the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Munich and also at the Institute for Educational Psychology at the Technical University of Munich . In 1994 she completed her habilitation at the Bundeswehr University . In 1995 she took up a professorship for movement and training science at the Institute for Sports Science at the University of Bremen , which she held until 2016.

In July 2016, she began her service as a professor of physical education at the Faculty of Education at the Free University of Bolzano .

The focus of Fikus' sports science work includes the subject areas of movement in childhood, stretching, learning to move, motor development and motor support for blind and visually impaired children as well as opportunities for movement in the city. In 2004 she and Volker Schürmann published the book “The Language of Movement: Sports Science as Cultural Studies”.

From 1997 to 2001 Fikus was a member of the board of the German Association for Sports Science .
