Monika Offenberger

Monika Offenberger (born December 5, 1961 ) is a German biologist and science journalist .

Life

After graduating from high school, Monika Offenberger studied biology at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and received her doctorate in 1994 with a thesis on the ecological niche of native fruit flies . Since then she has been writing for newspapers (including Süddeutsche Zeitung , SZ-Magazin , Berliner Zeitung ), publishers, research institutions and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research on findings in the fields of evolution , ecology and life sciences .

To their 2004 together with Georg Meister at Zweitausendeins published book "The Time of the forest" wrote the Süddeutsche Zeitung that look after his reading of "unsuspecting Forest hiker" the forest with different eyes, "something of the constant threat of overload this system by the massive Pressure of interests ”ahne. In 2005, Offenberger received the second award for environmental journalism from the Gregor Louisoder Umweltstiftung for “competent and critical reporting on hot spots in environmental protection”.

Regarding “Symbiosis - Why alliances for living in nature are so successful” from 2014, the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation found that Offenberger described the partnerships in flora and fauna “exciting and knowledgeable”. The book is a "successful mixture of astonishing findings and small but fine observations". Offenberger's "deep love for the range of symbiotic forms of life" is clearly felt. The book changes "the view of the forest with its mushrooms, of the ants - and also the relationship to one's own intestinal flora".
