Monika Reis (born April 18, 1951 in Hohenems ; born Monika Waibel ) is an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ). From 1996 to 2014 she was a member of the Vorarlberg state parliament .

education and profession

Monika Reis was born on April 18, 1951 as the daughter of Ferdinand and Pia Waibel in the Rhine valley town of Hohenems. She attended elementary and secondary school in Hohenems and trained at the Marienberg technical school in Bregenz from 1967 to 1970 . This was followed by a one-year language stay in England before she started working. In 1971 Monika Reis became a commercial clerk at the Hohenems ski manufacturer Kästle . One year later, in 1972, she also moved to the Hohenems branch of the pharmaceutical manufacturer Sandoz as a commercial clerk , where she was employed until 1981. Since 1981 Monika Reis has been a housewife alongside her political work.

Political career

Monika Reis joined the Austrian Workers' Union and the Austrian Women's Movement , two sub-organizations of the Austrian People's Party , in 1993 . In the 1995 municipal council elections, Reis was elected to a political office for the first time and has been a member of the Hohenems municipal council without interruption since April 29, 1995 . At the same time, she was elected a member of the Hohenems City Council for the first time and was responsible for the sports and family departments as well as kindergartens as city councilor. She initially held this office until 1997. In 2000, however, Monika Reis was re-elected city councilor with the same departments. From April 30, 2005 to April 10, 2010 she was subsequently Vice-Mayor of Hohenems with responsibility for sports and family, leisure and childcare. Since 2010 she has been a simple member of the municipal council at the municipal level.

On January 31, 1996, Monika Reis was sworn in for the first time as a member of the Vorarlberg state parliament , succeeding her party colleague Gerald Nosko on his mandate in the Dornbirn constituency . In 1999, after the state elections, she moved up again to the Vorarlberg state parliament, after her party colleague Eva Maria Waibel had been elected regional councilor. In the 2004 and 2009 state elections, Monika Reis also succeeded in becoming a member of the Vorarlberg state parliament. Reis, who had run at number 1 on the ÖVP state list in 2004, took up position 17 on the state list in the 2009 state elections , but achieved a basic mandate in the Dornbirn constituency. After the state elections in 2014 , she left the state parliament. During her time in the Vorarlberg state parliament, she was the area spokesperson for sport and childcare in the first two legislative periods for the ÖVP state parliament club, and in the second two legislative periods for family and sport.

Private life

Monika Reis has been married since 1978 and is the mother of two sons. She lives with her family in Hohenems . Reis has been an official for many years and has been President of the Vorarlberg Gymnastics Association since 2003 . As such, she was largely responsible for the World Gymnaestrada 2007 and the World Gymnaestrada 2019 taking place in Dornbirn .
