The Holzbach is a right tributary of the Rhine in Rhineland-Palatinate, coming from the Taunus . The lower Holzbachtal is known as the Blüchertal .
With the upper reaches, the Holzbach has a share in the natural subunit Middle Rhine Taunus and with the lower reaches the main unit Upper Middle Rhine Valley .
River course
The Holzbach rises in the western Hintertaunus south of the village of Weisel in a gentle Muldental and flows in a south-westerly direction initially with a moderate gradient through the open fields of the village, accompanied by the country road 339. Even before reaching the former slate mine Victoria gallery , the valley slopes accompanying the creek become always steeper and overgrown with forest. On the last two kilometers, from the junction of the road to Dörscheid , where the Kauber swimming pool was built, the Holzbach and with it the country road that accompanies it has an average gradient of around 10% in a narrow Kerbtal valley around the last 200 To cover altitude meters to the confluence with the Rhine near Kaub. History
On New Year's Eve of 1813/1814, the Silesian Army, under the command of Field Marshal von Blücher, moved from Weisel to Kaub through the Holzbachtal in order to cross the Rhine. Since then the valley has been known as the Blüchertal . More here .
