Monika Stork
Monika Stork (born March 22, 1961 in Lengerich ) is a German table tennis player . She took part in world championships twice.
youth
At the age of 11 Monika Stork began playing table tennis, guided by her older brother. She joined the TTC Lengerich association. She quickly achieved success in competitions among the students. In 1975 she took part in the women's qualifying tournament for the federal rankings and reached fifth place. This caused a stir and a headline in the Bild newspaper : A small flea is cleaning up under the table tennis bees . In the 1974/75 season she played with TTC Lengerich in the state league, where she won all games.
From 1976 to 1978 she won three times in a row at the national youth rankings. In 1977 she won the double competition at the German Youth Championship together with Rosemarie Seidler. In the singles she reached second place in 1976 and 1978. In 1977/78 she took first place in the girls' singles at the International Youth Championships in England. In 1977 and 1978 she took part in the European Youth Championship.
Ladies area
In 1976 Monika Stork moved to the Bundesliga for DSC Kaiserberg , with whom she was German team champion four times (1976/77, 1977/78, 1980/81, 1981/82). In addition, she won the German Cup six times with this club from 1977 to 1983.
At the National German Championships, she was runner-up in the individual in 1981. In doubles, she took second place with Agnes Simon in 1977 and 1978, as well as in mixed 1979 with Engelbert Hüging .
Monika Stork played two international matches, both at the 1981 World Cup , where she came 11th with the German team. At the 1977 World Cup , she only took part in the individual competitions.
In 1981 she was ranked 3rd in the German rankings and 24th in the European rankings.
End of career
In 1982 Monika Stork had to reduce her sporting activities because of a knee operation. Two years later she moved from DSC Kaiserberg to TSG Burg Gretesch , with whom she was promoted to the 1st Bundesliga in 1986. In 1988 she joined TuS Glane , where she stayed until 1992. After a three-year break, she joined the TuS Recke, with whom she played successfully in the major league.
Private
Monika Stork is a Sparkasse employee. In 1992 she married Bert Zimmer, the first chairman of the TTC Lengerich. She lives in Lengerich.
