Montaudran is a district of the southern French city of Toulouse . It is an outer district on the southern edge of the urban area, about 4 kilometers from the city center on the Hers River . Administratively belongs to Montaudran Secteur 5 (Toulouse Sud Est) , where it forms together with the north bordering districts Pont des Demoiselles and La Terrasse , the Quartier 01/05 , which the Canton Toulouse-9 belongs. The smaller northern part of the district is characterized by residential areas, while the larger southern and eastern parts are mainly industrial and commercial areas along the former Toulouse-Montaudran airfield .

In the northeast, Montaudran borders on the municipalities of Balma (district Lasbordes) and Quint-Fonsegrives , in the east on Saint-Orens-de-Gameville and in the south on Labège . The Toulouse district of Lespinet (Complexe Scientifque de Rangueil) connects to the west . In the area of the district, the Marcaissonne and Saune streams flow into the Hers. In the south of Montaudran, the western city ring road A620 (which also forms the district boundary) branches off from the eastern A61 . Montaudran also has a train stop ( Halt ferroviaire Montaudran ) on the Bordeaux – Sète railway line ; regional trains of the TER Midi-Pyrénées stop here .

Montaudran has been known as a small village with a bridge over the Hers since the Middle Ages. During the Albigensian Crusade , a major battle between the defenders of Toulouse and the Crusaders took place here on June 16, 1211. When the Canal du Midi was built at the end of the 17th century , which runs about one kilometer west of the town, two bridges were built over the canal ( Pont des Demoiselles and Pont de Montaudran ) for the two roads between Montaudran and the old town of Toulouse . During the revolution , the place was renamed Messidor . At this time it was incorporated into Toulouse.

Today's place is completely shaped by the aviation industry. In 1917/18 Pierre-Georges Latécoère built an airfield here , which became the headquarters of the Aéropostale air mail company . The Montaudran airfield could not establish itself as a passenger airport, but became an important center for the aircraft industry and maintenance. The Groupe Latécoère , Breguet and Air France Industries maintained facilities in Montaudran, among others . In the 1960s and 1970s, numerous aerospace research and training institutions settled west of Montaudran in what is now the Lespinet area (Complexe Scientifque de Rangueil). Due to the concentration of the aviation industry at Blagnac Airport in the north-west of the city, the companies gradually left the Montaudran location, and at the end of 2003 the airport was finally closed. Since then, a larger part of Montaudran has been a conversion area ; the Montaudran Aerospace Technology Campus and residential areas are to be built here.

The Toulouse location of Airbus Defense and Space is located in the Parc d'activités Le Palays .
