The ten Monte class - cooling container ships have an important share of the refrigerated cargo services of the shipping company Hamburg Süd . They originally sailed under the German flag with their home port of Hamburg .

history

The shipping company Hamburg-Süd put the first Monte Cervantes into service in 1928 and took another Monte Cervantes into service in 1982 . The type ship Monte Cervantes of the Monte class started in 2004 is the third name bearer.

Originally the construction of six ships of this type was planned, ultimately the South Korean shipyard Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering built ten ships of the type between 2004 and 2009. The Monte Tamaro , put into service in 2007, was the first ship of the second series. The series ended with the Monte Aconcagua , baptized in May 2009 . They are used in the South America trip, for which they have been provided with a particularly large number of refrigerated container connections.

Since 2008, the Rio class, a variant of the ship type that has been extended by one container bay and enlarged to 5,900 TEU, has been built for Hamburg-Süd.

The ships of the Monte class, like all reefer container ships built by the Hamburg-Süd shipping company, have been designed for the transport of integral reefer containers since the paradigm shift that took place with the construction of the Cap San class in 2000 . Of the 5,552 TEU container capacity, around 2,450 TEU of refrigerated containers can be transported to 1,365 refrigerated container connections.
