Life

Monte Cook started his career with Iron Crown Enterprises in 1988 . There he worked on the games Rolemaster and Champions as an editor, developer and designer. In 1994, Monte Cook joined Tactical Studies Rules (TSR for short) as a game designer and wrote Planescape and the first D&D products. When TSR was bought by Wizards of the Coast (WotC for short), he moved to the Seattle area and eventually became a senior game designer at WotC. There he served as co-author of the third edition of the Dungeons and Dragons RPG (along with Skip Williams and Jonathan Tweet as lead author) and became the registered author of the Dungeon Master's Guide . In 2001 he left WotC to open his own design studio Malhavoc Press with his wife Sue . 2011 returned to Wizards of the Coast and was introduced in January 2012 as lead designer for the 5th edition of Dungeons & Dragons . But Cook left the company in April 2012 due to irreconcilable differences with the company's management.

Also in 2012, Cook developed the concept of his own role-playing world called Numenera . He presented the concept on the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter.com and asked for funding of at least US $ 20,000. Ultimately, Cook received $ 517,000 for his concept. The game world then formed the basis for the computer game project of the US developer studio inXile Entertainment and the ideal successor to Planescape: Torment , Torment: Tides of Numenera , in which Cook himself is involved as an author.
