Italo Montemezzi
Italo Montemezzi (born August 4, 1875 in Vigasio ; † May 15, 1952 there ) was an Italian composer of the late Romantic period .
Life
Montemezzi studied at the Milan Conservatory and then taught harmony there.
He mainly worked in Milan , where he was able to premiere some of his works at the Teatro alla Scala . He was best known as a composer of operas , the musical style of which is influenced by Richard Wagner and the Italian verismo .
His most famous opera is L'amore dei tre re based on a libretto by Sem Benelli . The opera, which premiered at La Scala in 1913, was never part of the standard repertoire of opera houses, but it was sung again and again by great singers such as Ezio Pinza , Cesare Siepi , Lucrezia Bori , Grace Moore , Rosa Ponselle and Anna Moffo . The opera was last seen on stage at the 1998 Bregenz Festival in German-speaking countries.
