Montford House
Montford House , also called Tower Rais , is a mansion in the Scottish town of Barrhead . The building is located in a small forest northeast of the city halfway to the southern districts of Glasgow . In 2003 Montford House was added to the Scottish List of Monuments in Category B.
history
A defensive tower called Stewart's Rais, built by Alexander Stewart , has been on the Montford House site since the 15th century . The Villa Montford House was completed in 1870 and initially referred to as the Tower Rais based on the defense tower . The second owner of the property was John Dove , who owned a hotel and basket factory in Glasgow. In the 1960s, the Montfortans acquired the villa, which they use to this day and established the name Montford House .
description
The two-story Montford House has the architectural features of the Tudor style . It consists of yellow sandstone , with window and entrance openings set off with bezels and the building edges with corner stones . Several decorative ribbons continue to run along the facade. The entrance area is housed in a three-story corner tower, which, like the rest of the building, is reinforced with battlements to give the impression of a castle. At the rear of the building to the west is a one-story wing, which is a former stable that has been modernized and now houses a chapel. Single-storey cantilevers emerge from the west and north sides of the main building . Montford House ends with hipped and flat roofs , which, however, are completely hidden by the battlements. The shingles are made of gray slate. The property's enclosure wall, which lines what is now Darnley Road , is made of rubble. Together with the ornate gate pillars at the various entrances, it is explicitly listed in the monument documents.
