Montils (grape variety)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Montils is a white wine from the Charente department . It was often confused with the Folle Blanche and Meslier-Saint-François varieties, which are widely grown in this region . Montils is part of the cognac brandy and is valued there for the fine aromas of its distillates. It is also part of the white Pineau des Charentes . Since 1992 the almost disappeared variety has been grown again increasingly. Smaller stocks are also known in Australia in the Hunter Valley. There is a closer relationship with the Gouais Blanc grape variety .

So far the 3 clones 984, 985 and 986 have been recognized for commercial cultivation.
