Traditional moon pie

A moon pie, or moon pie, is a confection popular in parts of the United States and consists of two round marshmallow- filled graham crackers that are dipped in a flavored topping. The snack is well known in the southern United States , where it is traditionally served with an RC Cola . The traditional moon pie is about 10 cm (four inches ) in diameter. The four main flavors of the coating are chocolate , vanilla , strawberry, and banana .

history

Moon pies were first made by a bakery in Chattanooga on April 29, 1917 . Earl Mitchell Jr. said his father came up with the idea for MoonPies when he asked a Kentucky miner what he would like to have as a snack and the miner asked for graham crackers and marshmallows.

Trivia

Sheldon Cooper from The Big Bang Theory is called "Moon pie" by his grandmother.
