United States cuisine
The cuisine of the United States includes regionally different cuisines from the approximately 9.6 million km² country. It developed mainly through the influences of immigrants as well as through the geographical and climatic conditions in certain parts of the country.
Popular known and Europe in addition to hot dog and hamburger called the soul food of African Americans such as spare ribs or chicken wings , in California cuisine mix Asian and Mediterranean influences, fish , seafood and vegetables are preferred. The Southern cuisine uses mainly rice , maize and poultry back. Especially in Louisiana , the often very spicy Cajun food is served. The Tex-Mex is popular, and in New England is in dishes like baked beans or apple pie heritage of the settlers from the Old World noticeable.

On American Independence Day , the Independence Day on July 4, are corresponding to the colors of the US flag prefers red, white and blue food or food served. This day is also often used as an occasion for a barbecue . The New England Clam Bake is also often held at parties or festivals. In addition to turkey, crown roasts of lamb or ham are also served on public holidays .

In the US, it is customary to serve a pitcher of (often heavily chlorinated) tap water in a restaurant that is not charged. Soft drinks and coffee are often only paid for once, and replenishment is free of charge ( refill ).

There is a pronounced cocktail culture, and cocktails are generally used as an aperitif ( cocktail hour , cocktail party ) before or at a festive dinner.

whiskey
Whiskey was brought to the United States by European immigrants. In the early years of the colonies, spirits such as rum and gin were much more popular. It was only through the expansion to the west that the Americans began to rely on products made locally. Up until Prohibition , rye whiskey made from rye, which was distilled more in the north, was the leader; after Prohibition, whiskey production relocated almost entirely to the southern states. Since then, bourbon and Tennessee whiskey made from corn have dominated the market. In addition to the large distilleries ( Jack Daniel’s , Jim Beam ), there are now a large number of smaller brands and several hundred microdistilleries.

Top cuisine
The Michelin Guide publishes three separate editions for the USA: New York City , San Francisco, Bay Area and Wine Country and, since 2010, Chicago . In 2015, New York City had 6 three-star restaurants, 9 two-star restaurants and 58 one-star restaurants. The San Francisco and vicinity had 4 three-star restaurants, 6 two-star restaurants, and 30 one-star restaurants. In Chicago there were 2 three-star restaurants and 3 two-star restaurants, to which there are 19 one-star restaurants.
