geography
The mountain is located in the west-central section of the Alaska range 22.7 km southeast of Denali . The Great Gorge , a section of the Ruth Glacier , runs below the western flank of the mountain. The breeding ground of the Buckskin Glacier is located on the northeast flank of the mountain . The slightly lower Bear Tooth rises about 640 m to the south-southeast . Both peaks belong to a rock massif that offers various challenging climbing routes.
Ascent history
The first ascent was made in 1964 by a German expedition led by Walter Welsch. On June 2, 1964, Walter Welsch, Klaus Bierl, Arnold Hasenkopf and Alfons Reichegger reached the main summit via the western and central summits.
In 2013 Dani Arnold and David Lama made a first ascent on the new route called "Bird of Prey" by being the first to climb the 1500 meter high east face.
