The Moran Bluff is a rock cliff in front of the Hobbs Coast of the West Antarctic Marie Byrd lands . It rises immediately west of Mathewson Point on the north shore of Shepard Island on the northern edge of the Getz Ice Shelf .
The crew of the icebreaker USS Glacier under Captain Edwin Anderson McDonald (1907-1988) visited the cliff on February 4, 1962. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named it in 1974 after Gerald F. Moran, a construction mechanic who spent the winter at McMurdo Station in Year 1965 and on the plateau station in 1968, who also worked at the Byrd station in the summer months between 1969 and 1970 .
