Maximilian Theodor von Schlegel , also Maximilian von Schlegell , (born July 10, 1809 in Steinberg near Danzig , † February 18, 1863 in Düsseldorf ) was a Prussian major general .

Maximilian was a member of the Prussian, from the Mark Brandenburg originating noble family von Schlegel. His parents were Heinrich August Friedrich Leopold von Schlegel (1766–1832) and his wife Albertine Christiane Sophie, née Kauffmann von Kauffberg (1774–1863). The Prussian Lieutenant General Wolf Benno von Schlegel (1801-1860) was his older brother.

Career

Schlegel began his career in the Prussian army in 1821 as a cadet in Potsdam , moved to Berlin in 1823 and became a non-commissioned officer in 1826 . He was aggregated on foot as a second lieutenant in the 1st Guards Regiment in 1827 and placed in the budget in 1831. From 1834 to 1837 he was in command of the General War School, in 1841 he was aggregated Premier Lieutenant and in 1842 adjutant of the 1st Guard Landwehr Brigade. In 1847 he was released from his command and honored with the Order of the Red Eagle, fourth class. Schlegel stood on foot again in 1848, as a captain and company commander with the 1st Guard Regiment. With his promotion to major in 1853, he became a wing adjutant of King Friedrich Wilhelm IV. In 1855 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and became the commander of the Guards Sergeant Company. In the following year he received the Commander's Cross II. Class of the Frederick Order and the command post of the 2nd Infantry (King) Regiment . He was promoted to colonel in 1857 and became commander of the 2nd Guards Regiment on foot . He remained in this position until 1859.

After a long illness and the associated convalescence leave, Schlegel was made available to the Chief of the Army General Staff in 1860 and in 1861 was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle, Second Class with Oak Leaves. Also in 1861, he became commander of the 27th Infantry Brigade and was promoted to major general.

family

Schlegel married Rosalie Cäcilie Benecke von Gröditzberg (1816–1889), a daughter of Wilhelm Christian Benecke von Gröditzberg , in 1840 . The marriage resulted in at least one daughter, Susanne Mathilde Rosalie (* 1847), who married Karl Wilhelm Rudolph Heinrich von Salisch (1846–1920) in 1874 .
