Wolf Benno Ludwig von Schlegel (born February 21, 1801 in Magdeburg , † September 4, 1860 in Klein-Kommerowe , Trebnitz district ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

Wolf Benno was a son of the Prussian colonel and knight of the order Pour le Mérite Leopold von Schlegel (1766–1832) and his wife Albertine, born von Kauffberg (1774–1863). His brother Maximilian Theodor (1809–1863) became a Prussian major general .

Military career

Schlegel visited the Berlin cadet school and was then on 5 May 1818 as second lieutenant of the 1st Guards Regiment walk the Prussian army remit. By mid-April 1839 he was promoted to captain and company commander . With a patent from January 13, 1827, he was transferred to the 16th Infantry Regiment in Cologne on April 7, 1842 . Schlegel was promoted to major on March 22, 1843 as commander of the 2nd battalion in the 29th Landwehr Regiment. On March 13, 1848 Schlegel was aggregated to the 1st Guards Regiment on foot and commanded him as the military companion of Prince Friedrich Karl of Prussia . In this position he took part in the battles near Schleswig , Oeversee and Flensburg in 1848 during the war against Denmark . For Fredericia he was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle IV class with swords.

On December 2, 1848, he was released from his position with the prince and on January 16, 1849, he was appointed commander of the fusilier battalion in the Emperor Franz Grenadier Regiment . Schlegel rose to lieutenant colonel by mid-April and was promoted to regimental commander on April 15, 1852 when he was promoted to colonel. In this position, at the end of December 1852, he was awarded the Commander's Cross of the Austrian Leopold Order . From April 25, 1854 to October 29, 1856 he was the commander of the cadet corps. Schlegel then became major general and commander of the 24th Infantry Brigade in Neisse . Under awarding of the character he was on 17 May 1859 as a lieutenant general and the Red Eagle II. Class with oak leaves and swords on rings board for disposition made. He died on September 4, 1860 on Klein-Kommerowe.

Schlegel married Maria von Rehdiger (1810–1880) from the Stiese family on March 4, 1844 in Berlin. The couple had several children:

  • Friedrich Hermann Wolf (* 1845), second lieutenant, later judge in America
  • Johanna Mathilde Marie (1849–1912) ⚭ Max von der Planitz (1834–1910), general of the artillery
  • Elisabeth Marie (* 1846) ⚭ 1867 Arthur von Salisch (1829–1885)
