Nalzen ( Occitan : Nalzenh ) is a French commune with 136 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Ariège department in the Occitanie region . It belongs to the Pamiers arrondissement and the Pays d'Olmes community association founded in 1995 . The inhabitants are called Nalzenéens .

geography

The municipality of Nalzen is located 15 kilometers southeast of Foix and about 50 kilometers north of the Pyrenees ridge . The municipal area is determined by two long valleys . The river Ruisseau de la Buure forms part of the northern border of the municipality and flows west to the Ariège , the southern border of the municipality runs in the middle of the river Douctouyre , which swings north and flows to the Hers-Vif . The river valleys are separated by a 635 meter high mountain saddle on which the village of Nalzen spreads out. The valleys are framed by wooded mountain ranges that reach 969 m above sea level in the west ( Picou de Freychenet ) and 744 m in the east. The districts of Conte (580 m), Silence (570 m), La Garrigue (575 m), Baragnou (575 m) and Février (705 m) belong to Nalzen . Nalzen is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Roquefixade in the north, Villeneuve-d'Olmes in the east, Montferrier in the southeast, Freychenet in the south, Celles in the west and Leychert in the northwest.

Economy and Infrastructure

Four farms are located in the municipality of Nalzen (cattle, sheep and goat farming as well as feed cultivation).

Nalzen is on the D117 highway from Salies-du-Salat to Perpignan . In Saint-Paul-de-Jarrat , ten kilometers away, there is a connection to the motorway-like route nationale 20 ( E 9 ) from Pamiers to Puigcerdà in Catalonia. The train station in the town of Foix, 15 kilometers away, is on the railway line from Portet-Saint-Simon to Puigcerdà.
