economy
In Lagarde, as in the entire historical province of Razès, there is a lot of agriculture. The rental of holiday homes ( gîtes ) also plays an important role in the economic life of the small community.
history
Little is known about the town's history. Already in the early Middle Ages it was ruled by a castle, which was probably destroyed during the Albigensian Crusade (1209-1229). Renewed in the 13th century under Alfonso II of Aragon, it was expanded in the 16th century by Jean de Levis and - with larger windows - adapted to the new taste of the Renaissance . The gardens were laid out or redesigned in the 17th century.

Others
- A curiosity is the inclined, about 100 meters long, about four meters wide and resting on several arches, ramp-like driveway ( allée ) from the village to the castle; it probably dates from the 18th century.
- The parish church ( Église de la Nativité de la Sainte Vierge ) dates from the 15th century; the west facade with its bell gable was completely renewed in the 19th century. The low rib vaulted church interior is - as usual in the Midi - only one nave; In the place of the aisles there are several spacious chapels. The nave and side chapels are mostly painted. The equipment includes a baptismal font made of one stone under the organ gallery.
