The Mathewson Point is a steep and rocky headland on the northern tip of Shepard Island amid the Getz Ice Shelf off the Hobbs Coast of the West Antarctic Marie Byrd lands . It is the standard location of a breeding colony of Adelie penguins .
The crew of the icebreaker USS Glacier mapped them on February 4, 1962. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named them in 1962 after Lieutenant David S. Mathewson, the ship's supply officer.
