Morgan Calvin Hamilton (born February 25, 1809 in Huntsville , Alabama , †  November 21, 1893 in San Diego , California ) was an American politician ( Republican Party ) who represented the state of Texas in the US Senate .

After attending school, Morgan Hamilton first worked in the trade in the city of Elyton . In 1837 he settled in the Republic of Texas , where he opened a shop in Austin . Between 1839 and 1845 he was secretary in the War Department of the Republic, where he served from December 1844 to March 1845 acting as War and Navy Minister of Texas.

It was only around 20 years later that Hamilton continued his political career. After he had held the post of Comptroller of the Treasury in the Treasury of the State of Texas in 1867 , he took part as a delegate to its constitutional convention the following year. On February 22, 1870, he was elected to the US Senate, where on March 31 of the same year he took the Class 2 seat, which had previously been vacant since 1861 . After being re-elected immediately, Hamilton remained in the Senate until March 3, 1877.

He then retired from public life, lived in Brooklyn and traveled a lot. He died on one of his trips to San Diego in November 1893. His younger brother Andrew was Governor of Texas between 1865 and 1866 .
