Morgenstern Trio

The Morgenstern Trio (named after the poet Christian Morgenstern ) is a German piano trio that was founded in 2005 at the Folkwang Hochschule in Essen. The repertoire ranges from Haydn, Beethoven, Brahms, Ravel and Shostakovich to contemporary composers (Bloch, Widmann, Komanetzky). The Morgenstern Trio was “Ensemble in Residence” at the Folkwang University for 2008 and 2009.

In 2006 the trio won a scholarship from the German Music Competition . Two years after its founding, the trio received three internationally important prizes: the special prize for the best Haydn interpretation at the Haydn Competition in Vienna in spring 2007, the 2nd prize at the 5th Melbourne International Chamber Music Competition and the 2nd prize including the audience award at ARD competition in Munich. The three musicians played in the concert series Best of NRW , organized by the “Werner Richard-Dr. Carl Dörken-Stiftung ”was brought into being together with the WDR and the Kunststiftung NRW . Guest performances have taken the ensemble to festivals such as the Pablo Casals Festival in Prades , the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival and the Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival in Finland. Recordings of the trio were u. a. to be heard in: BR, SWR, HR, ORF, ABC Classic / Australia.

For the 2009/2010 season, the Morgenstern Trio was selected for the Rising Stars series of the ECHO ( European Concert Hall Organization ) at the suggestion of the Cologne Philharmonic and the Konzerthaus Hamburg . In this context, the three musicians will appear in the most important concert halls in Europe. Also in 2009 the trio received the Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson International Trio Award. The award includes several concerts in the most important concert halls in the USA (such as Carnegie Hall ) and studio recordings for a CD production until 2012 .

Musical influences

The Morgenstern Trio is part of the artistic environment of Vladimir Mendelssohn, Menahem Pressler , Vesselin Paraschkevov and Dirk Mommertz . It also received impulses from postgraduate studies at the Alban Berg Quartet in Cologne and from the ECMA (European Chamber Music Academy).
