Moritz Calisch
Moritz Calisch (born April 12, 1819 in Amsterdam ; † March 13, 1870 there ) was a Dutch portrait, history and genre painter of Jewish descent.
Calisch studied at the Koninklijke Akademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam with Jan Adam Kruseman . He became a member and later vice chairman of " Arti et Amicitiae ".
In 1834 he received a silver medal from the Teekengenootschap of Rotterdam for “visiting a midwife in the family of a fisherman”.
His history paintings brought him the greatest success: “King Francis I of France on his deathbed Leonardo da Vinci” and “Death of Demosthenes”. The painting “King Ludwig Napoleon brings help to his needy subjects” was bought in 1855 in the royal picture gallery.
