Friedrich Moritz Hill (born December 8, 1805 in Reichenbach im Eulengebirge , Province of Silesia , † September 30, 1874 in Weißenfels ) was a German teacher of the deaf and dumb.

Life

Hill was a pupil of the seminary and (1825-28) assistant teacher of the orphanage in Bunzlau , then attended the university , the Singakademie and the deaf and dumb institution in Berlin for two years and was head of the deaf and dumb institution in Weißenfels from 1830 until his death .

In his development of the German or articulation method of teaching the deaf and dumb, Hill pursued the particular purpose of removing the character of a secret art from this teaching and adapting it to the general principles of modern pedagogy. In addition to numerous teaching and auxiliary books for teaching, he wrote: Instructions for teaching deaf and mute children for clergy and teachers (Weimar 1840; 3rd edition by Ohlewein and T .: The clergy and teachers in the service of the deaf and dumb , Weimar 1882); Complete instructions for teaching deaf and mute children (Essen 1840, 2nd ed. 1872).
