Moritz Krantz

Moritz Krantz (born August 8, 1812 in Dresden ; † May 16, 1869 there ; full name: Ernst Moritz Krantz ) was a German lithographer , painter , engraver and draftsman.

The Krantz family originally belonged to the middle-class craftsmen. Julius Gottfried Krantz (1688–1766) was a master shoemaker and ran the business, which was taken over by his son Christian Fried Krantz (1722–1796). He was the painter's grandfather and married to Juliana Sophie (née Schwartz from Pirna). From this marriage the son Johann Gottlieb Krantz (1772-1840) emerged, who married Christina Dorothea (nee Bàrwind) in 1804. They were the parents of Ernst Moritz Krantz.

In 1830 Krantz exhibited for the first time at the Dresden Art Academy . From 1831 to 1835 he studied at the Dresden Art Academy (matriculation number 0864 Ernst Moritz Krantz). Krantz was best known for his portraits , u. a. by Friedrich August von Ammon , Ludwig Ferdinand Pauli and King Albert of Saxony . Krantz worked a. a. worked with Carl Gustav Carus and made sketches and illustrations for anatomical textbooks.

Krantz was married to Amalia Eleanora (née Schmidt), who was the daughter of a sergeant in the royal Saxon army. The couple had a son Georg Eugen Krantz , who worked as a councilor and music teacher and founded the Dresden Conservatory . He was also on his mother's side the grandfather of the later war criminal Reinhard Heydrich .
