Ludwig Ferdinand Pauli (born June 30, 1793 in Berlin , † November 28, 1841 in Dresden ) was a German theater actor and director .

Life

Pauli's father was a book printer and let his son learn this trade in the Decker'schen Hofbuchdruckerei . After that he worked for some time as his father's assistant, in 1812 Pauli came to Magdeburg in the Pansa'sche print shop. His interest in theater life arose in Berlin, where August Wilhelm Iffland worked at the court theater as an actor and director. His first appearance in Magdeburg took place on November 22, 1812 in the play Der Sonnenwirth by Hermann Kurz . In 1815 he volunteered for the 2nd Magdeburg Jäger Detachement and took to the field against Napoleon Bonaparte ( Reign of the Hundred Days ). After a year break in which he worked as a typesetter, he was employed again at the theater.

Because of his admiration for the actress Karoline Auguste Tilly, who came to Magdeburg in 1817 but received an engagement in Dresden in 1818, Pauli also moved there. He married her on November 1, 1819. Nine years later, on October 31, 1828, his wife died. Pauli married his second wife, Baron Isidora von Friesen, on March 30, 1838, who survived him.

From January 1818 Pauli played at the Royal Court Theater in Dresden , where he soon became a highly valued member of the ensemble. From December 1824 to December 1832 he was also a director. In November 1837 he celebrated his celebrated 25th stage anniversary, but died in 1841.

Pauli mastered a wide range of stage repertoire, from comedians to schemers, with his comic roles being particularly well received by the audience.

Pauli is buried in the Elias cemetery Grabfeld B, row 15, grave 2 in Dresden's Pirnaische Vorstadt .

Contact with Raimund

On January 15, 1830, Ferdinand Raimund wrote to Pauli about a delicate matter in Dresden, which, however, did illustrate the very permissive handling of intellectual property at the time:

“ My 'Girl from the Feenworld' was also given at the Schaubühne in Leipzig , which is also under your direction , without the book and music of this magic game having been obtained from me. I therefore kindly ask you to kindly inform me how the same was obtained without paying for it. "

At that time Pauli was apparently also responsible for directing work in the old theater in Leipzig .
