Moritz Lewitt

Moritz Lewitt (born August 12, 1863 in Posen , † April 1, 1936 in Berlin ) was a German chess player and composer . Lewitt participated in numerous tournaments and achieved some successes in the practical game.

Study composer

Lewitt composed over 150 endgame studies . He also worked as a solver of chess compositions.

Chess official

Lewitt was elected librarian of the Berlin Chess Society in 1892. From 1908 to 1910 he was secretary of the German Chess Federation . After many years as the first chairman of the Berlin Chess Society, Lewitt was made an honorary member of the Berlin Chess Society after his re-election was rejected on October 14, 1910. In 1922 Lewitt co-organized the international match against Sweden and dedicated a chess study to the Swedish team.

Private

Lewitt had a doctorate and worked as a practicing physician. He carried the honorary title of medical councilor .

Lewitt was also involved as an author of chess books. In his last years he prepared a book about his chess puzzles, which he could not finish until his death. In 1933 Lewitt suffered a stroke , from the consequences of which he died in 1936.
