The Morwell River is a river in central Gippsland in the Australian state of Victoria .

It rises in the Strzelecki Mountains (on the northern slope of Mount Fatigue ), then flows northwards past the small towns of Boolarra and Yinnar to Morwell . At Traralgon , the canalised river, which is piped around open- cast lignite mines, flows into the Latrobe River .
