The MosaPedia is an online reference in the form of wikis for comic classic mosaic . The name is composed of mosaic and encyclopedia . The project was started by the fan community on November 28, 2005, but not yet publicly. The project was opened to the public on December 22, 2005.

Project description

The aim of the project is to collect everything worth knowing about the mosaic, its protagonists (the Digedags , the Abrafaxe and Anna, Bella & Caramella ) and everything else related to the comic . This includes descriptions of the booklets and characters, biographies of the authors and artists, historical and other references to the booklets, merchandising products, comic and scrapbooks, fan projects and much more. In the first two months of its existence alone, almost 1200 articles were created (an average of almost 20 new articles a day). As of August 13, 2019 there were over 17,100 items. MosaPedia is currently the second largest German-language comic wiki.

The aim is to create a lexicon in which not only information is collected for new readers - after all, the mosaic has been published in over 750 booklets for more than 60 years - but also background information is given. This independent project, which is financed by association contributions and donations, is supported by the Mosaik Steinchen für Steinchen Verlag , in which the mosaic has been published since 1992. The publisher gave permission to use images for the project. The employees of the publishing house have a collective user name under which they help to create the lexicon. This also allows internal insights.

The use of the MosaPedia texts is free for non-commercial use. Commercial use is only allowed with the permission of the administrators. Unless otherwise stated, the rights to the images are owned by the two Mosaik publishers, which is why they may not be used outside of MosaPedia.

organization

Logo of the FanWikiRing

MosaPedia is a founding member and initiator of the German Fan Wiki Ring. In cooperation with the German Comic Guide , MosaPedia maintains a forum to exchange information and ideas, plan projects and give beginners a point of contact to find help when working on a wiki. In May 2008, the computer magazine PC-Welt added MosaPedia to a list of 20 “cool and bizarre wikis on the Internet”.

On November 9, 2007, the MosaPedia eV association was founded in Wolfen , with the objective of providing ideal support and financial and technical sponsorship for MosaPedia. The association has been entered in the register of associations at the Schöneberg District Court since January 16, 2008. When the association was founded, it had 14 members, in winter 2014 more than 120. The association's chairman is Robert Löffler, vice chairman Michael Klamp, treasurer Heiko Muhl and secretary Gilbert Schwarz. Helmut Müller, Klaus D. Schleiter , Ulf S. Graupner , Lothar Dräger , Jan Suski and Jens Fischer were made honorary members. Jan Suski, who also created the logo of the MosaPedia and the FanWikiRing and is valued as an artist in mosaic fan circles, designed the membership certificate. There is an annually changing annual gift for the members. This is designed either from circles of the association or in conjunction with mosaic artists and the publishing house Steinchen for Steinchen especially for this occasion. So far there have been the following annual gifts:

  • 2009: special edition of the mosaic 9/1988; In addition to the original booklet signed by Lothar Dräger (only for association members), a booklet with facsimiles of the original scribble and the original manuscript. This gift was also published on the publisher's open day.
