Tenkodogo is a city (commune urbaine) and a department encompassing the same area in the West African state of Burkina Faso .
It is the capital of the Center-Est region and the province of Boulgou and has 124,985 inhabitants in the six sectors of the capital and the 83 villages surrounding it.
The city was the capital of the Mossi empire of the same name , which existed until the French colonized it.
