Moshe Teitelbaum (Hebrew משה טייטלבוים , born 1759 in Przemyśl , Poland-Lithuania ; died on July 16, 1841 in Újhely , Austrian Empire ) was a Hasidic rabbi in Hungary .

Life

Moshe Teitelbaum was born in Galicia in 1759 . He took up his first office as a rabbi in Sieniawa .

In 1808 he became a rabbi in Újhely , where he founded a Hasidic community and gained a high reputation. Even Moses Sofer paid him recognition as Lajos Kossuth , he had his mother blessed operation.

Moshe Teitelbaum was strongly influenced by Kabbalistic thinking. In the people he was considered a miracle worker. The amulets he distributed were popular and in demand . With the money he raised, he supported those in need.

He died in 1841. Even today he is considered one of the most important teachers of early Hasidism.
