Hans Stefan Ludwig Albrecht von Piat (* 1650 in France; † February 5, 1710 in Petershagen near Minden) was major general in Brandenburg and commandant of Lippstadt fortress .

Life

Like many French, he came to Brandenburg after the edict of Nantes was repealed . There he joined the army in 1675 . In 1677 he became a lieutenant in the Dönhoff regiment on foot. He took part with the regiment in the war against Sweden . On October 6, 1679 he was appointed captain in the regiment Holstein-Ploen transported. On April 10, 1688, he became major in the Jung-Holstein regiment. On January 20, 1690 he became lieutenant colonel and commander of the 2nd battalion, which was paid in Dutch during the Palatinate War of Succession . Between 1692 and 1694 he took part in the siege of Namur , the battles of Steenkerke and Neer winds and the defense of Charleroi . Then he came to the Brandenburg contingent of the Great Turkish War . Between 1694 and 1697 he fought in the battles of Peterwardein and Zenta , where he was appointed colonel on February 10, 1695 . In 1698 he led this battalion back to Königsberg in Prussia , where it was combined with the battalion coming from Holland. On March 28, 1699, the colonel was given leave to restore his health, and Colonel Platen was given authority over the regiment in his place. Piat did not get the regiment back and was instead appointed commander of Lippstadt on April 15, 1699. During the War of the Spanish Succession he fought against the French from 1703 to 1706, but had to return sick. He was promoted to major general on January 11, 1705. He died on February 5, 1710 in Petershagen.

He was married to Sophie Christiane von Linstow (* 1671; † June 28, 1756), with whom he had four children. The widow received an annual pension of 240 thalers from the elector.
