Moses McClean

Moses McClean (born June 17, 1804 in Gettysburg , Pennsylvania , †  September 30, 1870 there ) was an American politician . Between 1845 and 1847 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Moses McClean received an academic education. After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1825, he began to work in this profession in Gettysburg. In the 1840s he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party .

In the congressional election of 1844 McClean was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 15th  constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Henry Nes on March 4, 1845 . Until March 3, 1847, he was able to complete a legislative period in Congress . This was shaped by the events of the Mexican-American War .

After his time in the US House of Representatives, McClean practiced again as a lawyer in Gettysburg. In the 1850s he became a member of the nativist Know-Nothing Party , also known as the American Party . In 1855 he sat for his new party in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives . After that he continued his legal practice. He died on September 30, 1870 in his hometown of Gettysburg.
