Motoki Nishimura

Motoki Nishimura ( Japanese 西村 昌 樹 , Nishimura, Motoki ; born June 8, 1947 in Chiba Prefecture ) is a former Japanese judoka . He was a heavyweight Olympic knight in 1972.

Athletic career

The 1.85 m tall Motoki Nishimura won the heavyweight division at the Universiade in Tokyo in 1967. In 1972 he won the Asian Championships in the open class.

At the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, he won his first heavyweight fight against the Swiss Pierre Paris after 1:07 minutes. In his second fight he was defeated by Giwi Onaschwili by referee decision (yusei-gachi). In the hope round he defeated M'Bagnik M'Bodj from Senegal in 1:57 minutes, the Frenchman Jean-Claude Brondani defeated Nishimura by yusei-gachi. The Japanese had reached the semi-finals, where he was defeated by yusei-gachi to Willem Ruska from the Netherlands and received a bronze medal.
