Pierre Paris
Pierre Paris (* 1859 in Rodez ; † March 17, 1931 in Madrid ) was a French archaeologist and Hispanist .
Life
Pierre Paris was director of the École des études supérieures hispaniques at the University of Bordeaux and from 1899, along with Henri Mérimée and Alfred Morel-Fatio, publisher of the Hispanic Bulletin . During longer stays in Spain , he studied the country's art and history. He published his results in 1910 in his work Promenades archéologiques en Espagne , which was reprinted several times. In 1897, Pierre Paris discovered the Dama de Elche , an outstanding testimony to the art of the Iberians . In 1923, Pierre Paris settled in Valladolid and his family stayed in Bordeaux. From 1928 to 1931 he was the first director of the Casa de Velázquez in Madrid, a French study center comparable to the École française de Rome .
Pierre Paris died on March 17, 1931 of complications from pneumonia and was buried in Madrid.
