hardware

Display

The smartphone has a 5.5-inch IPS screen protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3 with a resolution of 1920x1080 pixels (" Full HD "). This results in a point density of 401 ppi. The ratio of the screen to the overall size of the device is 74.4%.

processor

The Moto X Play is equipped with a 1.7 GHz Qualcomm eight-core processor Snapdragon 615, 2 GB RAM, 16 or 32 GB memory and a Qualcomm Adreno 405 GPU . It has Category 4 LTE and NFC . The smartphone also has a microSDXC card slot with which the memory can be expanded by up to 128 GB.

service

It is operated via the touchscreen as well as the volume buttons and the on / off switch. The Moto X Play uses a nano SIM card . A dual SIM variant is available in some regions. The speakers are located on the front at the bottom.

camera

The smartphone has a 21 megapixel camera with an f / 2.0 aperture and a CCT dual LED flash. The camera has an auto focus ("Phase Detect") and can record 1080p Full HD videos at 30 frames / second. Slow motion recordings are possible at 540p resolution at 120 frames / second.

battery pack

The Moto X Play has a 3630 mAH lithium polymer battery . Although the back is removable, it is permanently installed. According to Motorola, one battery charge is enough for two days of mixed use. Qualcomm's Quick Charge 2.0 is also supported.

software

The device was delivered with Android 5.1.1 "Lollipop" , Android version 6.0 "Marshmallow" had been available since the beginning of 2016, and Android 6.0.1 at the end of March.

The Android system was taken over by Motorola almost unchanged, the equipment was only supplemented by its own camera app, the Moto app and the Motorola help app.

At the end of September 2015, Motorola published the source code of the Moto X Play kernel. This gives users the option of adapting the components of the operating system to suit their own requirements.

rating

According to Computer Bild magazine , the Moto X Play had the brightest of all smartphone screens in January 2016 at 828 cd / m². In daylight the camera is one of the best on the market, but in the dark it drops off sharply. When it comes to battery performance, it is also one of the leaders. The lack of a gyroscope , the WLAN standard 802.11ac and the chop-chop gesture, with which you can activate the flashlight with a hand movement, as is usual with Motorola devices, are criticized .
