The Motru is a right tributary of the Jiu (German: Schil) in Romania .

designation

The river was called Amutria in ancient times. He is already mentioned in Claudius Ptolemy and in the Tabula Peutingeriana .

geography

The Motru rises in the west of the Muntii Vâlcan in the Southern Carpathians . He first flows from south and then to the southeast, by then flows north of Călugăreni the reservoir Barajul Motru flows to the city Motru and after the confluence of the right tributary Coşuştea at the city Strehaia past, giving it flowing in from the right takes Huşniţa and flows into the Jiu above Filiași .

The length of the Motru is 138.8 km; its catchment area is given as 1,874 km².
