At 3015 m, Mount Acton is the highest mountain in the western ridge of the Welch Mountains in the West Antarctic Palmerland .
The United States Geological Survey mapped it in 1974. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named it after Commander William Acton, an officer on the staff of the Commander of the United States Navy Support Units in Antarctica from 1967 to 1969.
