Mount Ariel is a 1250 m high mountain on the east coast of the West Antarctic Alexander I Island . It rises at the southern end of Planet Heights above the northern flank of the Uranus Glacier .
The American polar explorer Lincoln Ellsworth probably saw him for the first time during his transantarctic flight on November 23, 1935. Aerial photographs of the American Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition (1947-1948) were used in 1960 by the British geographer Derek Searle of the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey for mapping . The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it after the Uranus moon Ariel .
