Dream time

The name of the mountain comes from the Dungidau aborigines : kunna means neck and warang crooked . The mountains of the Glass house Mountains are the subject of Dreamtime stories of the Aborigines ; therein Mount Coonowrin is the son of Mount Tibrogargan and the mother Mount Beerwah . During a violent storm, Tibrigargan ordered his son Coonowrin to take mother Beerwah and his siblings to safety. However, for fear of the storm, he didn't help them, but ran away. As a result, his father, Tibrogargan , broke his neck with one blow. Out of shame at his son's cowardice, Tibrigargan has turned his back on him to this day.

Rockclimbing

The Mount Coonowrin has a long history of mountaineers. However, climbing has been banned since 1999 because it endangers stability.
