Mount Darby is a 1750 m high mountain in East Antarctic Victoria Land . In the Asgard Range of the Transantarctic Mountains, it rises 2.1 km northeast of Mount JJ Thomson on the watershed between the Rhone Glacier and the Matterhorn Glacier .
The New Zealand Geographic Board named it in 1998 after the New Zealand marine biologist Marie Darby of the Canterbury Museum in Christchurch , who was the first New Zealand scientist in Antarctica in January 1968 on board the research vessel Magga Dan .
