The Mount Gexian ( Chinese  葛仙山 , Pinyin Gexian Shān ) is a 1096.3-meter-high mountain in the district Yanshan , Jiangxi , China .

It is known for extraordinary pine trees, grotesque rocks, its sea of ​​clouds and the whistling of the wind in the pine trees. The highest point is Gexian Peak ( Chinese  葛仙峰 ), which is 1096.3 m above sea level. In January 2018, it was designated as an AAAA-level tourist attraction by the National Tourism Administration of China.

Surname

Legend has it that the Han Dynasty Taoist priest Ge Xuan became immortal here.

Mount Gexian, one of the oldest mountains in China, has a long history and deep cultural roots. It is full of historical sites and cultural relics associated with numerous legends.

The Gexian Ancestral Temple ( Chinese  葛仙 祠 ), also known as Yuxu Temple ( Chinese  玉虚 观 ), is the largest Taoist temple on the mountain. The original temple called Zonghua Temple ( Chinese  宗 华 观 ) dates back to the 9th century during the Tang Dynasty . In 1065 it was renamed Yuxu Temple by Emperor Song Yingzong . In 1092 it was renamed Gexian Hall ( Chinese 葛仙 殿 ). It was burned down and rebuilt. The last repair took place in 1928. The large temple complex is located in the northeast and is oriented to the southwest, it includes the Great Hall of Gexian , the Hall of Laozi , the Hall of Guanyin , the Hall of the Lingguan (Halle 殿; Hall of the clergyman ), the Hall of the Earth Mother and the Hall of the Jade Emperor as well as the side halls East and West.  

The Queen Mother Hall ( Chinese  娘娘 殿 ) was built to commemorate Ge Xuan's mother.

The Ciji Temple ( Chinese  娘娘 殿 ) is a Buddhist temple on the mountain. It was originally built in 1593 during the reign of the Wanli Emperor in the Ming Dynasty .

Cable car

Since 2017 there is a 2069 m long cable car that takes 10 minutes and a difference in altitude of 691 m up the mountain. Before that, a hike took about 2 hours.
