The Mount Lyell is a 3999 m high mountain in the Sierra Nevada in the State of California of the United States . It lies on the border between Tuolumne County and Madera County in Yosemite National Park and forms its highest point.
The mountain is also the highest point in Tuolumne County. It is named after the geologist Charles Lyell and was first climbed in August 1871. On the north flank lies the Lyell Glacier , the largest glacier in Yosemite National Park.
Surroundings
Peaks in the area are Mount Maclure in the northwest, Rodgers Peak in the southeast, Electra Peak in the south, and Mount Ansel Adams in the southwest. The dominance is 8.42 km, so the mountain is the highest point within a 8.42 km radius. It is towered over by Mount Ritter to the southeast .
